Pablo Atchugarry was born in 1954 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and is internationally recognized for his monumental marble sculptures. From an early age, he showed artistic talent, influenced by his father, who was also an artist. Initially exploring painting and drawing, Atchugarry later turned to sculpture, discovering his passion for working with materials such as marble, bronze, and wood. In the late 1970s, he moved to Europe, where he settled in Italy, a country renowned for its marble quarries. There, he refined his technique, particularly in Carrara marble, which became central to his artistic identity. His sculptures are characterized by elegant, vertical forms and flowing lines that evoke movement, lightness, and spirituality. Many of his works suggest a dialogue between nature and human creativity. Atchugarry’s art has been exhibited worldwide, including in major museums and public spaces across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. He has also created large-scale outdoor installations that interact with their surroundings. In addition to his artistic career, he founded the Atchugarry Foundation in Uruguay, promoting art and cultural development. His work continues to receive critical acclaim for its craftsmanship, poetic abstraction, and timeless aesthetic.
